Special "Planetary Class" Grade
FURNITURE AND MUSICAL INSTRUMENT MATERIAL
BLACK WALNUT SLABS, Juglans nigra Linn. - "Planetary Class"
Black walnut wood is used for premier furniture, guitars, and other hardwood applications (like gunstocks). Once every five years, or more, a quality known as "Planetary Class" becomes available for sale, as a grade. This is a very rare size and quality of Black Walnut wood. Dimensions are given for this grade, along with a number of other grades for this special one-time sale
A board-foot measurement is defined as a 1-inch thick slab, by one foot wide and one foot long. Current inventory on Black Walnut slabs range from 4.5" to 3.5 inches thick, enough thickness for lapping and still offering more than a 3-inch slab for fine furniture use.
